There currently is not any built-in functionality to execute a process on failure of an execution package.  In fact, one of our clients has had to build an external process to watch the log table in the repository database to look for a failure and then execute other processes.

I think a simple solution to this would be to allow for Running a Package upon Failure.

That execution package could execute stored procs, outside SSIS packages, etc which would allow for various types of interaction, including sending short SMS Text Messages of a failure, creating a trouble ticket in an IT Management System, etc.

in addition to this: It would be nice to be able to start the execution process from the point where it failed last time. So when a package runs for an hour and it fails after 50 mins, you don't have to start over again. Especially handy for development, but also in production.

It might look like this:

If you run your packages multithreaded, there's no way to tell which packages have been loaded and which haven't. So in this way the person receiving the SMS or Ticket, could restart the process where it failed. And not losing time.

In failure handling, it would also be nice to specify the option Go to next step in addition to Retry Step. In some cases it could be useful to Retry first, and then go to next step. In case of going to next step, it would usually be nice to let the failed table have existing data instead of empty.

This would be really handy! I have some 'basic package' that only loads the most necessary stuff, which could be loaded when some more advanced package fails

Hi , in the Jet version we have, I can't right click on the succeeded false field. I executed only the Olap semantic layer and want to resume where it failed (or restart with that cube).

Is it beacuse I just executed the olap and not a full package incl BU and DWH?
